The Best Job Is Daddys’s One – FreeHand Painting (Colored Big Stones)

Until about 3 – 4 year age kids can’t really draw or fill, but is important to practice a FreeHand Painting which can help them to get practice.

It’s very important to practice this techniques on really large sheets of papers which can bring freedom.

But vital alternative can be a large enough 3d objects like stone or clay based flowerpot.

For this kind of paint we use an Tempera (poster paint) colors. !!!! Use only non-toxic ones designed to be used by kids. !!!

There is many Tempera like colors available, but really ideal is to use washable ones, which can be removed from kids closes up to 1 hour from application.

But anyway I recommend to get for your kid a special painting closes with plastic over the for this activities.

PS: On pictures you can see one really needed instrument – paper towels 🙂

Paper box is harden with glued wood sticks using transparent Termal Glue, I like to work with it because is fast, see photo.
Also all corner parts are made more stiff using a lot of thermal glue, which is applied in 3 runs.

The Best Job Is Daddys’s One – FreeHand Painting (Finger Paiting,Stamping)

Until about 3 – 4 year age kids can’t really draw or fill, but is important to practice a FreeHand Painting which can help them to get practice.

It’s very important to practice this techniques on really large sheets of papers which can bring freedom.

For this exercise we use a large (around 1m2) sheets of cheap packaging paper, most are light or brown brown colors.

For drawing with fingers Fingerpaint you need a special colors, they are usually sold in sets, it’s enough to get basic set of 6 colors.
Kids are usually painting directly from packaging, so don’t get packaging too big otherwise kids will use much more color then is really necessary.
True Fingerpaint colors are made from culinary materials and are non-toxic, some of them even have certificate to be a non-allergic..

These techniques can be combined for example with gluing, here is sample of added HILLS.

Free Hand Finger Painting or even simple Stamping is good practical way to learn colors and their mixing.

The Best Job Is Daddys’s One – FreeHand Painting (First Little Steps)

Until about 3 – 4 year age kids can’t really draw or fill, but is important to practice a FreeHand Painting which can help them to get practice.

It’s very important to practice this techniques on really large sheets of papers which can bring freedom.

For this exercise we use a large (around 1m2) sheets of cheap packaging paper, most are light or brown brown colors.

First steps are focused on getting feeling of space, so we paint with fingers using white or gray gipsum/plaster or clay.

For this initial technique, simple mix gipsum/plaster or clay powder with right amount of water to get sticky liquid.

It this initial phase we don’t recommend to use colors, it will distribute our your painter.
You can use a one color of specialized finger paint, but it will be very expensive,
gipsum/plaster or clay is much cheaper, we use a colored finger paint set later,
after our young painter learn what is right amount of material to paint with.

Bellow is one of our best abstract painting with this technique – Chinese Dragon

The Best Job Is Daddys’s One – Wicker Boxes from Rattan as Toolboxes

As we start handwork’s sessions with my kids, we have tools everywhere.
So I make some Wicker Boxes from Rattan/Pedig as Toolboxes.

I use a pre-colored rattan roots based material in Europe called Pedig.
This material is now very popular, so you can get it in small amount for good price and already pre-colored.
Also many books or internet sources about Pedig are available with usage instructions and right construction tips.

TIP: I use a prefabricated basements (many sizes and shapes are available) with odd number of
3mm holes (13,15,17,19), it’s much easily to work with odd numbers of base sticks.

As a rod/pale is normally used a 2.5mm Pedig, but this is not enough strong for kids power, so I glue to holes sticks from 3mm bamboo kitchen skewer.
I measure bamboo rods, put sharp knife on mark and role bamboo to get very clear cut. I glue bamboo rods in with white paper/wood glue and left it dry over night.

Next day I put a 1.6mm Pedig into half-hearted water for half hour so they get wet to be soft and flexible.
On top I use a 2mm Pedig (You need to make it wet for about 1 hour), I press it down to fix it and glue it on place with white paper/wood glue before it actually get dry.

Important: If you will put Pedig into water for short time or you will let it dry, Pedig will crack easily, also don’t put Pedig in water for long time, it will get ugly – hairy.

Gluing is done with small 30gr bottle of white dispersal wood/paper liquid glue, in Czech Republic sold under brand Herkules.

The Best Job Is Daddys’s One – Window Decorations = Paper Butterflies

My my daughter still can’t draw or even fill very well yet, but she likes so much to work with glue.

So I make with here some Paper Creatures as Butterflies Window Decorations , here we use a technique to slice over a transparent papers.

This technique is more suitable for children under 3-4years then usage of special windows colors which are very difficult to clean from kids closes.

There are 2 sorts of transparent color papers, soft and hard, we have better experience with more thick hard one.

Most important is glue so she can easily work with it and glued surface will persist intact over time.

We have best experience with Henkel Liquid Stick, see photo.

For gluing on window glass we use a natural potato/corn based starch (used normally for wallpaper),
it’s not 100% transparent (a little with yellow tone), but it can be easily removed and most important it’s 100% non toxic.

Hint: Glue creatures on widow in place where you have sunshine going throw.

Note: Butterflies are only firs part, second will be grass and flowers.

The Best Job Is Daddys’s One – Creatures from Paper – Flat Style II.

My my daughter still can’t draw or even fill, but she likes so much to work with glue.

So I make with here some assembled Paper Creatures, here a opposite technique then is used before – filling creature shape with small colored peaces.

Paper is from cheap colored notebook – but need to be relative thin so it can be easily crunched, base white paper is cheap hard one.

As crunching device (small bears in our case) is used relative expensive device from Germany (www.folia.de ,around 150Kc) , cheaper Chinese ones need more power to click and my kids can’t use it yet.

Most important is glue so she can easily work with it and glued surface will persist intact over time.

We have best experience with Henkel Liquid Stick, see photo.

The Best Job Is Daddys’s One – Simple Finger Puppets from FELT

Here is some tips for simple Finger Puppets from felt. I made then one by one during TV evenings – one takes me about 10 minutes..

Felt is a non-woven cloth that is produced by matting, condensing and pressing woolen fibers, Felt in Wikipedia.

Felt is good for such puppet toys, because it can easily cut in any direction and by hand plus it can be also glued.

You can get Felt in many colors and best for this puppets is around 2mm thick, thinner is not appropriate for sewing by hand .
You need also a very sharp scissors and plenty of colored synthetic sewings, useful is also universal white glue for gluing wood
to keep small parts on place before you will sew it.

The Best Job Is Daddys’s One – Wall drawing ‘The Aquarium’

When my daughter was 1.5 old , she found then in one Prague Shopping center they have nice painted wall with sea creatures,
I send couple evenings to paint our version of sea shelf, it takes about 20 painting hours + 6 preparation ones.

On then beginning I make a borders with flowers and sea-mew, after I sit with my kid on Google image search and we was looking on real sea shelf photographs to allow my daughter selecting creatures she won’t to have painted.

Creatures don’t need to be perfect, don’t spend time with projecting or transferring complex pictures, kids have big imagination and even simple ones looks for them dreamy.

Some tips:
– Use only solid dark color, light soft colors can’t be painted one over other
– Penetrate first wall with background color mixed with original painting material
– If you want to use shine, select one with micro granulates, so you can also mix shine directly with colors.
